Shotgun, Roku, and stuff

I recently bought a shotgun for home defense. I used to own a 22 rifle and pistol but I gave those to one of my brothers years ago. I purchased a Mossberg 590 9 shot 12 guage pump action from Bob's Gun & Tackle in Norfolk. The shotgun is a civilian version of the one that is used by both the military and many police departments. I have fired it twice so far, once at an indoor range and once at a friends house in North Carolina. I am very impressed with both its accuracy and its lethality. The photos of a propane cylinder that we used for target practice will testify to the power of 00 shot. I have also ordered a Roku media streaming device so that I can instantly stream and watch Netflix videos to my HDTV. I have not received it yet but I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Tommorow is voting day and the forecast is for heavy rain. So I guess I will be standing in line outside in the rain for hours. I should have gotten my flu shot first.

Trip to see shuttle launch fast approaching.

My trip to Florida to see the launch of STS-125 is still a go. I have a ticket on Southwest Airlines for October 6th to Orlando, Florida. I will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Titusville. The original launch date has been moved from a night launch on the 8th to a day launch on the 10th. That will be better for me as I will be able to take more photos and video during daylight. While in Florida I plan on visiting the KSC Visitors Center and the Shuttle Museum. I have a ticket that lets me watch the launch from the KSC.  I may also meet up with a real estate agent to look at some houses we are considering buying in Florida. I am really excited about seeing a shuttle take off. It promises to be a trip of a lifetime.

Storms headed our way

The hurricane season is reaching it's peak and there are three storms out there now that I am worried about. The closest storm is TS Hanna, which should become a hurricane very soon. Latest predictions call for it to make landfall in North Carolina and then pass right over our area here in Chesapeake Virginia between Saturday and Sunday. Close behind are Hurricane Ike and TS Josephine. I am usually pretty prepared for things like this but I did a little quick shopping this morning to make sure we are well prepared. Now all we can do is cross our fingers and hope nothing bad happens.
